Activities at Padda Care
For individuals living with Dementia can cause people to withdraw from activities and enjoyable interaction with others including family. At Padda Care Homes we recognise that meaningful activities are of the utmost importance and can make a positive benefit to our Residents day and maintaining a more enjoyable quality of life.
It is our ethos to have a designated experienced Activities Coordinator dedicating quality time to get to know our residents, their life stories, interests and what puts a smile on their faces. We actively seek to engage our residents in group activities such as Chair aerobics, karaoke and community outings using our own company minibus.
There is also regular entertainment arranged including nostalgia therapy, local Choirs, Singers and Pet Therapy visits going on in our Homes.
Our Care staff work closes with our Activity Coordinators to bespoke activities for individual residents based on their past interests and hobbies. We use a variety of rummage boxes, fiddle boards, and other reminiscent therapies.
At times we realise that activities cannot be confined to group sessions as one to one interaction can benefit people living with Dementia more particularly as their illness advances. We use a form of Namaste therapy which uses sensory stimuli of touch, hearing, smell and feeling. This can involve aromatherapy, hand massage and music therapy.
Everyday involvement to participate in daily living skills like choosing what clothes to wear for the day, making the bed or folding laundry to put away is all empowering and maintains a sense of normality as our short-term memories become less prominent.
